Yukari Kane

Yukari Iwatani Kane is a co-Founder and co-executive director of Prison Journalism Project. She is an author, educator and veteran journalist with 20 years of experience and was a staff writer and foreign correspondent for The Wall Street Journal and Reuters. Her book Haunted Empire: Apple After Steve Jobs (Harpers Business) was a best-seller, translated into seven languages. She has been an adjunct lecturer at Northwestern University, where she has taught journalism fundamentals, investigative reporting and the Medill Justice Project and at University of California, Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, where she taught technology reporting. At San Quentin News, she developed a curriculum and reader for prison journalism. Yukari is a member of the 2021 Institute for Non-Profit News Emerging Leaders Council and a 2021-2022 Reynolds Journalism Institute fellow to further her work with PJP.
