Volunteer

Each year we rely on a wonderful group of volunteers to help us make our conference environment warm and welcoming for all attendees. Volunteers work alongside the best minds in online journalism, and revel in the satisfaction of pulling off one of the best events in the industry.

This year’s conference will take place in Los Angeles Sept. 21-24. Selected applicants will receive complimentary registration to ONA22.

Event Volunteers

We have several roles available to help us pull off a premier event with the warm and energetic feeling ONA events are known for. We’re recruiting event volunteers to work eight-hour shifts helping support pre-conference preparations, registration, sessions, special events and other critical elements of ONA22.

Audio Team

After two successful seasons, we want to bring the conference podcast “ONA on Air” back to ONA22.

We are looking for digital journalists with audio skills to join this team. Volunteers will work together on releasing some episodes during the conference. Previous episodes can be found on Soundcloud, Apple Podcasts or Stitcher.

Applications for Audio Team volunteers closed Aug. 4, but we are accepting applicants to a waitlist.

Frequently Asked Questions

What volunteer roles will be available this year?

We are looking for volunteers to help us foster a positive and welcoming atmosphere at ONA22 via conference production aspects including registration needs, event set up and tear down, monitoring sessions and some virtual tasks such as editing session transcriptions.

Do volunteers receive a pass to ONA22?

Yes, each of our volunteers will receive one complimentary, non-transferable registration to attend ONA22.

I have already volunteered at several ONA conferences, what does this mean for my chances of getting selected again?

We are reviewing all applicants and will make selections based on conference production needs.

Are volunteers able to attend educational sessions?

Volunteers are more than welcome to attend sessions and events outside of your scheduled volunteer hours. Some volunteer shifts also require you to tune in to a session as part of your responsibilities.

Am I guaranteed a spot on the volunteer team?

We will evaluate all volunteer applications, and once all shifts are filled we’ll move applicants to a waitlist.
